If you are a new resident to Texas, and your title is already in your name, you have two options. You may surrender your title and get a Texas title and registration, or you can keep your title and apply for registration only. To apply for either, you must be a resident of Taylor County or active-duty military with your home of record being Texas along with a Taylor County address.
To apply for a Texas title and registration you will need the following:
*The Title
*A Title Application- (Form130-U)
*Proof of insurance that meets Texas limits of Liability
*Proof of Texas Safety Inspection (VI-30)
*Government issued ID/Passport
To apply for Texas Registration Purposes Only:
*The last registration from your previous state or a copy of your Out-of-State Title
*A Title Application - (Form 130-U)
*Proof of insurance that meets Texas limits of Liability
*Proof of Texas Safety Inspection (VI-30)
*Government issued ID/Passport
If you are active-duty military located in another state and Texas is your home of record along with a Taylor County address, you may submit a Vehicle Self Certification Form (VTR-270) in lieu of the VI-30. This also applies for full-time students located out of state.
